You will never believe what changed my life as a Bear Artist, when I had to purchase a new bed.
Yes, a new mattress. It was right there in a clear plastic box with dividers sitting on the foot of the bed. All the natural products that was put into that English mattress was there to show you what was inside. Immediately, I saw this product of spun Hemp and Flax that was called ecoshiv. This was a 5th Generation Family run company in England. I loved that a product as big as a mattress was made by hand and made with products grown on a farm. The morals to eliminate as much of a carbon footprint, actually awarded this company one of the UK's highest awards for innovation.
It made me think of beds and teddy bears and they go together. It is amazing the wonderful Teddy Bear lore that is steeped in English History. In 1837 The Story of the Three Bears was first published. It was written by Robert Southey and it describes three bears as well behaved and civilized, (as only English Bears should). They cooked some porridge (not exactly bear's favorite food) and because it was too hot, they took a walk, and the rest is history.
We can't leave out Winnie-the-Pooh, also called Pooh Bear, is a fictional anthropomorphic teddy bear created by English author A. A. Milne. The first collection of stories about the character was the book Winnie-the-Pooh in (1926), and this was followed by The House at Pooh Corner (1928).
Merrythought a toy manufacturing company established in 1930 is in the United Kingdom. The company specialises in soft toys, especially teddy bears. It is the last remaining British teddy bear factory to still make its products in Britain and is located in Shropshire, only 96 miles from Britain's oldest and family run mattress company.
When I finally had my conversation with Simon Spinks, the managing director and 5th generation family member who leads Harrison Spinks. I was touched by his integrity and a true moral leader when it comes to not just protecting the environment. He is passionate about saving a breed of sheep, and really thinks out of the box when it comes to innovation, to keep his company one of the World's finest. We had a very friendly conversation in which we decided to expand the use of their award winning ecoshiv product from beds to heirloom quality teddy bears. You never know where a passion can lead you, mine has brought me to creating Teddy Bears.
You know, I love Antique Bears, and their role in history and being able to identify them can take many years. I must confess that I am a critical Arctophile, I have read many books and have looked at 1000's of Teddy Bears. Who knew one day it would give me a skill I never thought would lead to a line of work, that I hope brings much joy to other people who love to collect bears and at the same time make awareness that sometimes just being all natural can be better in the long run.
